Individual psychology focuses on the uniqueness of each individual.
Adler's Model has 4 treatment phases: 1. Establish a collaborative therapeutic relationship as well as be on the same page about treatment goals. During this stage encouragement is very important. This helps counter the clients discouragement. 2. Assessment, analysis & understand the person & problem: Counselor collects information about the clients background, level of functioning, the problem, expectations for treatment & a total summary. During this stage the counselor wants to understand the client's family background, lifestyles, goals and identify any self destructive behaviors or thought processes. 3. Reeducation, insight and interpretation: Counselors use interpretation and confrontation to help their clients become aware of their behaviors, lifestyles and understand the negative consequences awhile working towards a positive change. 4. Reorientation, reinforcement, termination & follow up: Clients can now create new ideas and behavior patterns. They now have a different perspective on their life and can make much more rewarding choices. Counselors must remain flexible and optimistic while supporting the client to make a shift.
